Design and
fabrication for
modern spaces.
about us
The Cristofaro atelier, founded by Justin Cristofaro, produces custom furniture and sculptural artwork designed and fabricated for commercial and residential spaces.
Residential
projects
In partnership with designers, architects and clients, Cristofaro creates custom pieces that bring the spirit of superior modernity and traditional craftsmanship to residential spaces. Alongside its own creations, the Cristofaro team works with fellow designers who share an appreciation for creativity and materiality.
Rue St-Pierre
The modern Rue St-Pierre couch and modular side tables are hand-crafted from sheet metal with an acrylic enamel metallic paint finish. The design of the final product is softened by the choice of an urban basil velvet fabric.
Harland Road
The custom Harland Road dining room table is made of a unique terrazzo stone inlay sitting atop a classic, hand-polished tubular steel base with a satin powder coat finish.
The Boulevard
The distinctive Boulevard display unit, designed as a standalone piece of functional art, is made from sheet metal and treated with a custom shade of liquid metal coating.
Kindersley Park
The Kindersley Park kitchen features a custom oven vent finished with a vintage brass patina as the focal point, accented by custom stools made from Sahara Royalin leather and rolled tubular steel.
Lakeside
A custom over vent finished with a brass patina is the final touch to the Lakeside kitchen, complimenting the brass hardware and lighting accents.
Rockland Ave
The Rockland Avenue partition is designed as a showpiece when entering the family home. Its purpose is to create a functional division between the entrance area and main hallway. The partition was custom designed and fabricated from tubular steel with reeded privacy glass. Its playful style is echoed in the nearby powder room, with custom wall panelling, vanity and satin black stainless steel sink.
St-Paul Ouest
St-Paul Ouest showcases colourful bar stools made to match a hand-painted, Mondrian-inspired and metallic piece of wall art.
Commercial
projects
Blending visual elements from a variety of disciplines, each piece created by Cristofaro is crafted to maximize the spatial, practical and aesthetic awareness of an interior space.
From fine dine establishments to boutiques and work spaces, Cristofaro has fabricated functional and exclusive furnishings for Restaurant Henri by Birks, the Vintage Frames Company and Atelier Bui, amongst others.
Atelier
OUR STUDIO
The Cristofaro atelier is located in the south-west end of Montréal. Each project designed and fabricated by Cristofaro, whether a private, custom art piece or large-scale commercial installation, is conceptualized and perfected in the workspace. The atelier offers top-tier service to a network of Montreal’s most creative design professionals.
Inspired by the history of the Cristofaro name and trade, the atelier specializes in creating custom metal finishes with the highest quality of paints. The rich tones of the metal patinas used in commissioned projects will continue to develop and enrich over time, making each project truly unique.
HISTORY
Cristofaro craftsmanship dates back to 1945 in Montréal, Canada, when Frank Cristofaro (Justin’s great-grandfather) opened Frank Cristofaro Automobile after fighting in WW1 and emigrating from the Campobasso region of Italy. The shop was passed on to Armand, Frank’s son, who evolved the shop to be the city’s destination for custom cars and high quality paintwork.
By 1967, his Custom Body Shop became known nationwide for its superior custom work, obsessive attention to detail and taking on seemingly impossible challenges. Even Paul Newman entrusted Armand with his race cars when filming on Montréal movie sets.
The Cristofaro name became synonymous with a creative and exceptional bespoke service we now feel nostalgic for. From high-end car finishings to high-end interior furnishings and product design, the Cristofaro name lives on in Justin Cristofaro’s work today.
Since 2015, Justin has been building custom furniture and pieces for commercial and residential spaces across Montréal, perfecting traditional craftsmanship skills using stone, wood and steel, and making everything by hand out of his local work shop.
